Beliefs
Our church family consists of folks from a variety of religious backgrounds in addition to Methodism. Old South United Methodist Church is in connection and in mission with other United Methodist Churches in the United States and around the world. We are part of the New England Annual Conference. We are a congregation of the United Methodist Church. We seek to minister to people of every race, class, and age. Nationally, the United Methodist Church has the largest ethnic minority membership. With other congregations of the United Methodist Church we support hospitals, clinics, educational centers, evangelistic outreach, and church development worldwide. Characteristically, United Methodists are people with "warm hearts", "willing hands," and "keen minds" dedicated to love God. We are Biblical in faith, evangelical in spirit, methodical in practice, involved in service, and democratic in organization. Our church is centered in the Bible as the sufficient rule for living the Christian life. We are intent upon gaining the spirit of Jesus for daily living. In matters of personal faith and belief we practiceess and tolerance. As we move toward the year 2000, we seek to be a growing church. We seek to faithfully minister to all who come to share in our life of worship, study, service, and fellowship; to the end that we may become better disciples of Jesus Christ. We encourage you to bring family and friends with you when you attend. We urge you to become involved in one of the classes or groups currently available in our church Truly our church family is an expression of the Body of Christ in this community and in the world. Wonderful ministries of music, Christian education, Bible study and spiritual growth, pastoral care, with worship at the center of our life together, enrich our lives individually and as a community of faith. We have a multitude of children's ministries, including a weekday pre-school. At the same time, we reach out to the community and the world through the food pantry, ministry to the homeless, Cooper Community Center in Boston, campus ministry, work camps to build a school in Chile, and a Bible School for the Blackfeet Indians, support of our missionaries, and through countless other mission outreach opportunities each year. We are truly blessed to be part of this church family together. May God bless you on your journey of spiritual growth and enrichment. Old South |
